Children

We are a Rights Respecting School!

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is based on an analysis of what children need to thrive.  Harefield Primary has currently achieved both the bronze and silver awards, and we are very proud of this achievement. We are now going for gold!

Together, young people and the school community learn about children’s rights, putting them into practice every day. The Award is not just about what children do but also, importantly, what adults do. In Rights Respecting Schools, children’s rights are promoted and realised. Adults and children work towards this goal together.

There are four key areas of impact for children at a Rights Respecting school; wellbeing, participation, relationships and self-esteem.

The difference that a Rights Respecting School makes goes beyond the school gates, making a positive impact on the whole community.

  • Children are healthier and happier
  • Children feel safe
  • Children have better relationships
  • Children become active and involved in school life and the wider world.

What is a Right?

A Right is something that children and young people are entitled to, they do not have to be earned, and they belong to all children and young people from the time they are born. At Harefield Primary School, we want our children to know their rights and foster an ethos of tolerance and acceptance of everyone, respecting, not just their own rights but the rights of others around them.
